Is anyone interested in having some sort of diet check-in where we can talk about diet pitfalls and successes?
I’ve been struggling to lose weight because I go on eating sprees and am wondering if anyone else thinks a diet check-in might be helpful to them. We can give each other support, advice or just a shoulder to cry on.
We could add our diet discussion to our daily check-in or we could start a new diet check-in thread with either daily or weekly check-ins. We could just talk about it on this thread too. We can do something else if you have any ideas 🙂

I think that’d be great as long as we agree to disagree on what “works”.
I’ve recently been testing the waters by going “off diet” to figure out triggers and got almost sick eating some cookies with what I’d consider whole ingredients in them, no additives. The only thing in them that I have avoided skillfully is wheat. Everything else, I’ve had with no problem, but there’s always the possibility of hidden ingredients… I’ve had no weight gain, but awful inflammation and a flare up of arthritic pain.

I've not been doing as well on my gluten-free diet as I hoped and also deal with inflammation when I cheat. There's a Mediterranean restaurant that gives free, warm flat bread with hummus and about 4 other sauces. I can't resist the bread since it goes so perfectly with the hummus. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I didn't eat 5+ large slices. My husband loves the place since we can both eat (he has steak kabobs) and leave a nice tip for a total of (only) almost $20. I usually have lentil soup since I stuff myself with hummus. I've read that some people aren't actually allergic to wheat, but rather the glyphosate used on wheat. I don't know if that's true. I feel better when I go gluten-free,but I don't remember having any issues with wheat as a child or young adult. I was a bit disappointed in myself today because I ate 4 tacos -which I filled to the max. They were good! I will make up for it by just having a sandwich tonight. I bought some mild kimchi (which is supposed to be good for the gut) and I might try work up the courage to eat some of that too. There's always tomorrow (or the next day) if I can't.

My daughter bought me Chinese from where she works. It’s a new dish they’re putting on the menu and it was fabulous. It had shrimp, asparagus, onion, peppers, and mushrooms. I’m sure it had the seed oils I’m trying so hard to avoid, but it was really good.
Karla - the wheat cookies I ate were from Scotland, and I’ve always heard that their wheat isn’t poisoned like ours. That’s why I thought I’d be okay. It’s definitely a no.
Back to my (mostly) carnivore diet tomorrow!

Well, I really need to get my crap together and clean up my eating. Gained 7lbs of the 24lbs I lost, and my blood sugars are up. Granted, the last 2 days I forgot to take my metformin twice a day, only taking it once a day so I'm sure that's one reason why my sugars are up, but still, it's not good.
Got out my food tracker, going to write down every bite of food I eat just to keep my honest. Get back to eating more fruits and veggies cause I've slacked way off. Getting in plenty of protein and cutting back on the white carbs. It's hard in the summer cause it's hot, I don't want to cook and heat up the house. I just want to snack on cool stuff, or chips, stuff that require no heat to make. Is it fall yet???

I've done pretty good avoiding cookies and cakes with gluten. They sell some of my favorites at a local health food store. I occasionally stop and drool at the dessert case, but then meander over to the juice bar and get something to drink instead.

My grandmother had some real problems with her blood sugar and once had to be hospitalized. I'm not very good about eating fruits. Hopefully, when my little fruit trees mature, I will get more fruit in my system. It seems like a lot of the fruit at the supermarket doesn't have any flavor, so I try to buy organic juices. I get veggies in my stir-fries. It's hot here in Florida, so I feel for you. Fall can't get here quickly enough!

I've been trying to eat more foods that are good for the gut. So far, my new food adventure has been trying tempeh and kimchi. I tried the kimchi last night and didn't like it. I don't think my dogs would have eaten it and they gobble up everything in sight. I'm going to finish my small bag, but probably won't purchase any more.
The first time I had tempeh, I had to choke it down. I hate to waste food, so made myself eat the rest of the package the next day. I tackled it from a different angle by cutting it into tiny pieces and using it in a stir-fry. I didn't even notice it then. That was a couple of weeks ago. I made another tempeh stir-fry tonight that was tasty. I added Maitake mushrooms since they're good for the immune system.
I managed to stay gluten-free but need to work on making smaller portions of food. I don't know how my meals always swirl into such large portions that I need a pasta bowl :-) Well, actually I know, I just get carried away because I think this or that will make it taste better.

Iowa here. It was "only" 95 with a feels like temp of 114. All the corn we produce, and Iowa is the top corn producer in the US, pumps out humidity into the air to rival gulf states. I'm a Type 2 diabetic, but barely. The cut off is a H1C of 6.6 or more and mine was 6.7. Years ago when I was first a nurse that was still pre-diabetic but they lowered the standard several years ago.
I wrote down everything I ate today. Every bite. Worked on getting my protein in and I cut back on white carbs, some. Baby steps.

I tried Kimche as well. I believe I might have SIBO because all the probiotics just tear me up. I can do a Bulgarian yogurt I found at Whole Foods (I’ve been adding bee pollen), but even sauerkraut and Kefir make my stomach bloated. I’ve not tried Tempeh, it sounds awful. I do like the taste of everything else in the probiotic area though.

Weighed myself today and I'm down a pound. And that's with finishing up my hubby's Milk Duds. I love Milk Duds, so does he, and he had about 10 left in the box and let me have them.

Yesterday was a rough day because I had a terrible migraine with nausea. I used to suffer from horrific migraines several times a week. I started taking probiotics that are formulated without strains known to produce high levels of histamine. The probiotics allow me to eat foods I normally couldn’t eat without triggering a migraine. I hadn't had a severe migraine in a long time.
I’m not sure if it was the migraine was caused by the extreme high heat (it didn’t start until after I did yard work) or the fact that I ate some new cereal (with chocolate) and had a lot of nuts. 🌰 I blame my daughter for the nuts 🤣 She sent me a $20 coupon to nuts.com and I ordered stuff I shouldn’t have. They were delicious though. So while I can eat things now (in moderation) I still have to not overdo -which I did.
On the plus side, I had no problem sticking to my gluten-free diet.
Today I accidentally made another too large stir-fry. I couldn’t throw out the excess and there wasn’t enough to save, so I ate it. I will probably have a tomato sandwich later for dinner. This heat is robbing me of my motivation. I have a slight headache today, but nothing too bad. I had to walk my senior dog 🐕 but it was a short walk.

I’ve been sticking to my diet with one exception, ice cream. It’s so dang hot 🥵 here. So, I try to stick with brands I know have only real ingredients, no soy, no colors, additives. Staying away from the seed oils still. So far, no weight gain. Seems like the sugar hit’s differently, too. It’s not a quick high and then crash, but more even on blood sugar although I’m sure it still elevates it.
I have the biggest stye and it’s making my whole body feel achy. Taking oregano oil starting this morning and warm compresses. Will try castor oil on eyelashes tonight to help keep eye from closing shut tomorrow morning.

I hope you heal quickly! I'm going to try to eat Amy's frozen dinners for lunch and a sandwich for dinner for the next week or so in hopes of keeping my portion size down. I had the Tofu Scramble today. However, I fried some broccoli and mushrooms to make it more filling. I buy frozen vegetables. If I buy fresh, part of it usually spoils. Plain frozen veggies are bland and sorta soggy, that's why I fry everything. I'm trying to get away from those hidden calories. I wasn't totally gluten-free today. We went to Moe's for their Moe's Monday special. I decided to get a burrito because it has less food in it than the bowl. I forgot that the tortillas aren't gluten-free.

I’m thinking I need to ditch the ice cream. So hard to do when it’s blazing hot outside. I’m feeling bloated, but no weight gain. I’ve also been eating tomatoes and cucumbers a friend brought me from their garden and although I love to,altos, they tend to cause inflammation.
Karla - I quit buying fresh veggies because of this type of waste. I just see money being thrown away if I don’t eat it in time before it goes bad.
Rhbrand - congrats on the lost weight! Milk duds are addictive!
