Do you eat or drink before working out? Why or why not?

I used to workout fasted but a couple of years ago I started having a pre workout smoothie of strawberries, bananas and EAAs. I decided to change because I wanted to see if it helped with my strength/endurance on getting through my early workouts. I found I had much more energy and could lift heavier and for more reps or sets. I tried adding protein powder to my smoothie but found it just sat in my stomach and made my workouts uncomfortable so I changed to EAAs which seem to process quicker for me.

I used to have to pre-fuel and hydrate prior to a workout, but now that Iβm older I find that certain moves, planks in particular, will bring on reflux, so now I have to have an empty stomach. I just have to be much better about keeping my blood sugar under control and hydrating early in the day.

jldx2in2000, Iβve never tried having a pre workout smoothie. I might try that a couple of hours before my cardio or weight workouts and see how that works. I have to avoid eating or drinking anything if Iβm doing planks or push-ups in my workouts. FatKat, Iβm with you on the aging because I donβt remember it bothering me at all when I was younger. I used to have a snack or sandwich about 1/2 an hour or so before workouts when I was younger.

I workout in the late afternoon/early evening. And a couple hours before I usually have a protein shake and piece of fruit for my afternoon snack.
