Sometimes I just don't feel like working out. I never regret working out when I don't feel like it because I usually feel better and have more energy afterwards. Having a set routine each morning and afternoon helps as does allowing myself to do shorter, or easier workouts because it keeps me moving. I've changed my workout style. I no longer feel that I have to do weight training X amounts of times each week (blasphemy right ) because it takes some of the dread factor out and allows me to feel a bit more liberated. So, some of my motivation comes from changing my workout style to doing easier and shorter workouts when needed instead of making myself do harder and longer workouts. How do you stay motivated? Is it for the benefits of exercise? That was a huge motivating factor when I was younger. I could never be thin enough. I'm a tad overweight now but am flexible and still have decent arms. I also don't diet as much. I enjoy having a good meal and also eat things like pizza & chips. Do you have goals or a routine that helps you stay motivated?

I find that itβs the establishment of routine. If I lose my routine, itβs much harder to get back into it. However, I always focus on how I feel afterward and sometimes I can only get in 15 minutes of stretching BUT itβs the little, short workouts that reestablish the routine and consistency for me.
Iβm also oddly motivated by the visual representation of dvd covers. If I can βseeβ my workout, Iβm more likely to reach for it. I have hundreds of digital workouts on an external hard drive that I never touch. For me, itβs out of sight, out of mind. I think thatβs why streaming has not been a success for me.

I donβt feel like myself if I donβt work out. I start to feel restless and unhappy if I miss too many days for whatever reason. Once back in my gym the world feels right again. I think thatβs my motivation, I want to feel right.

I set up a rotation at the beginning of each month based on my intentions for that month. That helps keep me on track. The main dvds/workouts are already selected so no need to think about it, just do it. I allow for changes based on energy, time restraints, life events and allow myself to change it up if I'm just not feeling it. I also pencil in core and stretching/mobility and pick those out on the fly.
